Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology

Bring the science of flourishing into your work, your community and your life

Positive psychology gives us more than just ideas about happiness.

It helps us understand what allows people, families, teams and communities to function well, even when life is complex.

The Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology, (known as CAPP), is an opportunity to explore that science and learn how to translate it into practical, meaningful change.

For the first time, CAPP is being offered in a schedule designed specifically for people living and working across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

You will receive the internationally established CAPP learning experience from The Flourishing Center, while participating in live classes at times that work for our part of the world.

More than a course in positive psychology

CAPP is designed for people who do not simply want to learn about wellbeing. They want to use it.

You may want to bring positive psychology into your existing profession. Or you may be considering a new direction. Maybe you have an idea for a program, service, resource or community initiative that you are ready to develop.

Throughout the program, you will build your understanding of the science of flourishing while learning how to apply it through coaching, facilitation, teaching, leadership and everyday conversations.

It is academically grounded, but it is not purely academic.

You will explore the research, experience the practices yourself and consider how the learning can create a genuine difference in the lives of others.

Live instruction from a certified positive psychology expert

Access to a research database of all the latest research in the field

Ability to repurpose and use positive psychology materials within your organization

Opportunities for advanced training that can amplify the impact across the organization

ICF accreditation and additional credit toward continuing education

What will you explore?

CAPP is built around the PERMA-V™ model of flourishing:

Positivity:

Understand positive emotions, optimism, resilience and the patterns that shape how we interpret our experiences

Engagement:

Explore mindfulness, strengths, attention, motivation and the conditions that help people become deeply involved in what they are doing.

Relationships:

Learn about trust, belonging, communication, connection and the small interactions that strengthen relationships over time.

Meaning:

Consider purpose, values, contribution, identity and the experiences that help life feel significant.

Achievement:

Explore hope, confidence, motivation, habits and evidence-based approaches to setting and pursuing meaningful goals.

Vitality:

Understand the connection between physical wellbeing, energy, stress, sleep, movement and our capacity to flourish.

The Flourishing Center provides a comprehensive explanation of the curriculum, program inclusions and learning experience.

Learn it. Live it. Share it.

CAPP is not about collecting theories or memorising research.

The learning is designed to be experienced personally before it is shared professionally.

You will have opportunities to reflect on your own life, practise evidence-based interventions, discuss ideas with your cohort and learn how to communicate the science in ways that are practical and accessible.

Over time, you begin building your own approach to positive psychology—one that reflects your experience, interests, community and the people you hope to support.

For some participants, that leads to a new coaching or consulting practice.

For others, it strengthens the work they are already doing in leadership, education, health, organisational development or community services.

And for some, the most important change begins much closer to home.

Create something that matters to you

Global learning. Local connection.

One of the most exciting parts of CAPP is becoming part of an international community of people committed to helping others flourish.

The APAC cohort brings that experience closer to home, all the while making it an ever-increasing global movement.

When you join the APAC cohort, you will receive the complete CAPP program delivered by The Flourishing Center, along with:

Your APAC facilitator

Keira Johnson

I came to positive psychology through a belief that people deserve more than support when things go wrong.

We also need practical ways to build the conditions that help people feel connected, capable, hopeful and well.

My professional background includes leadership development, organisational learning and facilitation within large and complex organisations. My personal experience as the parent of two incredible neurodivergent children has also shaped my commitment to strengths-based, person-centred and inclusive approaches to wellbeing.

What I love most about CAPP is that it does not leave the research sitting on a page.

It helps people understand the science, experience it personally and find their own way to use it in the world.

I am delighted to help bring this program to people across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region and to create a learning space that is thoughtful, welcoming, practical and deeply human.
